ORIGN

During my apprenticeship (around 1994), I began developing and researching the idea that if I could recreate the worn-in feel of vintage jeans in new ones, I could preserve the vintage pair and wear the replicated ones over and over.

To minimize fabric damage, I insisted on manual processing without the use of machinery.

TIME AND EFFORT

What is needed to reproduce this delicate shading is the optimal bleach concentration, informed by both fabric and research.

MagicWash begins with six preparatory steps including pre-washing, ironing, and singeing. Afterward, we carefully work on the texture by repeatedly soaking fabric in bleach, about 5-7 times in total, allowing it to dry each time to achieve the desired finish. Finally, we rinse off the chemicals and complete the process.

It takes a minimum of 4 days to finish one piece. However, while we may never surpass the authenticity of genuine vintage jeans, we persist in honing our skills to propose a potential future for distressed finishes.
